Over the Rainbow Toy Store employs fun, mature individuals who enjoy working with the public and playing with children.  Full time and part time positions may be available.  Applicants must have a high school degree or equivilent, and we do not hire temporary or seasonal help.

Here at Over The Rainbow, we strive to promote discovery and imagination in children of all ages through innovative products and outstanding customer service. We are a locally owned, independent toy store, focusing on fun, creative, educational and developmental playthings for children of all ages. Many of our products often require showing the shopper what makes the toy unique, exciting, educational but still fun; in short; how to play with it and why the child will love it. Sensitivity to shopper's needs and the ability to serve those needs make a big difference in distinguishing our store from the big box stores.

Ideal employees:

  • Possess a knowledge of children, child development, and age appropriate playthings.
  • Enjoy working with people – both customers and co-workers.
  • Possess excellent manners and communications skills.
  • Are self directed workers, able to see what needs to be done and then ding it.
  • Show a willingness to take on responsibility and learn new skills.
  • Are extremely reliable, including transportation.
  • Understand the meaning of great customer service.

Job duties include:

  • Assisting customers – you must enjoy helping people!
  • Operating a computer based cash register and handling sales transactions.
  • Process freight shipments, including unpacking boxes, pricing, and accurately tracking/recording paperwork.
  • Merchandise and restock product and maintain displays throughout the store.
  • Daily housekeeping chores.

This is retail – which means not a sit-down job, and you must be comfortable working with people. Availability to work a variety of hours, including day shifts, afternoon/evenings, and weekends, is a must. December is a crazy, critical month for us, and employees are expected to work additional hours during that time (and not take time off!)

We are located next to the Huffman post office, near the Carr’s Huffman, in south Anchorage, at 12201 Industry Way. Store hours are Sunday, 11:30-6; Monday through Friday, 9:30-8 and Saturday, 9:30-7. Pay is dependent on experience, qualified employees can expect to earn above starting wages for retail, and dedicated, hardworking employees can expect merit raises.
